Kannawidan Festival BlogPost

A stunning province called Ilocos Sur is situated in Luzon's north. This province has a rich cultural past that combines Filipino and old Spanish influences. The villagers created the "Kannadiwan Festival" to promote these cultural traditions and to showcase and share their riches with the rest of the world.

From the final week of January through the first week of February, people celebrate. The celebration of the province's founding day is one of the activities that will take place.

At the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral, a mass is typically held on the first day. Following it, there is a parade around the city carrying statues of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary as well as the patron saints of the 40 parishes. It is the Ilocanos' way of thanking the Almighty for both their many bounties and the city's rich heritage, which includes their close-knit familial relationships. This occasion demonstrates the locals' fervent religiosity.

Children can learn to appreciate their rich tradition and culture here. On the festival's first day, Ilocos Sur students, particularly those in high school, participate in a traditional ceremony. There are various competitions that target the students' aptitude and competencies. Traditional tribal ceremonies, choir and glee club contests, marching band competitions, traditional music ensembles, dance dramas, traditional and folk dance competitions, and street dancing competitions are a few of these.
